In this masterclass, participants will examine the issue of maritime security, in connection with the geo-strategic challenges facing the stability of ASEAN. We will then examine the concept of stability from a legal angle, considering ASEAN’s authority as a security institution. Lastly, we examine the economic context, considering the role that how maritime trade determines - and is influenced by - the control over Southeast Asian waters.

To increase participants’ understanding of maritime security and geo-strategic challenges in Southeast Asia, with a view toward more comprehensive reporting surrounding the subject
