The tourism sector is an important driver of growth in gross domestic product (GDP) and employment in ASEAN, but the COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted it, and it needs to adapt accordingly. Governments in this region face an increasing urgency to introduce structural reforms to support sustainable economic recovery. This masterclass will discuss the importance of regional cooperation in Southeast Asia to expand the tourism industry and support sustainable economic recovery.
Objectives
To increase participants’ understanding of ASEAN’s post pandemic tourism recovery challenges and efforts needed
To raise new questions and issues in connection with regional economic cooperation to revive tourism in ASEAN
To generate new story ideas and angles in connection with the topic

kiniacademy will be welcoming all participants and introducing the speakers of the session. An overview of the topic will be provided along with poll results from the poll participants had taken preceding the event
Main topics will include: Overview of the state of travel in Southeast Asia, Challenges in reopening countries and the role of the media in travel recovery
Main topics will include: The impact on the economy, Why Langkawi only and how and what happens next
A discussion will be led by the keynote speaker where questions that were provided before and during the masterclass will be addressed. Participants are encouraged to ask questions that will aid in the production of their stories and enhance the discussions from the Masterclass topic
