Bio

Zakiah Koya began her career in 1995 as a feature writer with The Sun. In her many years as  a journalist, she has worked in multiple organisations, including The New Straits Times, Malaysiakini, Harakah, TV PAS, MMP, Malay Mail, fz.com, The Heat, Astro Awani and The Star.

Over the course of her career, Zakiah has taken on many roles in the media, including reporting, translation, event management, production, and managing newsrooms. Her focus has always been politics and politicians, although she loves writing about the common man and his life. 

In the late 1990s, she covered the reformasi street protests in Malaysia, conducted investigative reporting into Petaling Jaya’s racial riots, and wrote analyses and commentaries on socio-political issues. Zakiah has also conducted multiple interviews with high-profile personalities, including Tariq Ramadan, Datuk Seri Nik Aziz, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Tun Dr Mahathir, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and many others. For Zakiah, a journalist’s duty is always to ask the hard questions, even if you know you will not get a reply.
